Twicon Day One...OH THE MADNESS !!!

Well we arrived, safe and sound...in Dallas today for TWICON !!!! Karen drove ( I hate to drive!!)...and of course Edward was in the backseat (seat belt firmly in place!)...so I was tempted to just ride in the backseat next to him. But of course Karen reminded me, more than once, I had to co-pilot. In all honesty...he scared the crap out of us a couple of times. It is a little disconcerting to look behind you, forget you have a silent passenger back there, and then feel your heart stop! Not such a nice experience for me...almost caused a traffic accident when it happened to Karen!!
So, have you ever tried to check into a hotel, along with hundreds of other people, at a counter with only 6 employees? I have stayed in hotels many times. For vacations obviously...but also for work related conventions. I have had to wait in line behind a couple of people to check in...BUT THERE WERE LIKE 50 PEOPLE IN FRONT OF US!! And you should have seen our luggage cart. Our group has 5 people...we had two carts...and enough luggage for us to have an extended vacation in Europe for a month! WHY do we need so much stuff?? I felt a little strange when we pulled up for valet, and our guy had to wait for us to unbuckle Edward from the backseat...pull out all our luggage...and even grab all of our pillows (in Twilight pillowcases of course!)...but wow...we BELONGED here! We didn't even get a second glance. Everywhere we looked there were people (of ALL ages!!! even my grandmother's age!!) clothed in their "Twilight" gear...and carrying all sorts of Twilight related items. Oh yes...we belong...
So after getting up to our room...setting up Edward in front of our window (we think it would be awesome if someone walking below looked up and actually thought Robert Pattinson was looking down at them! With all the "twitarded" girls around here...it would probably cause a heart attack!)...we walked down to the convention center to check in. I am not exagerating...there must have been 500 people in line in front of us. And the sign in had started over and hour and half earlier. So, after moving approximately 3 feet...in 45 minutes...it was announced that the opening presentation was about to start upstairs. So, of course, we had to leave our line and head upward. We found a table about half way back...got a little something to eat from the buffet...and waiting for the magic to begin.
Okay...so the "Hillywood Show" group was really good. If you've never seeen their spoof...its hilarious. And they are highly entertaining in person. The "rules" and video about finding your way around kinda dragged...but everyone was really nice. It ended with a spoof from the Evil Iguana guys...again, funny if you haven't seen their stuff before. But, in all honesty...we snuck out a little early so we could TRY to not be so far back in the line to get our badges. So it took about another 45 minutes...but then we got our badges, our tickets for the Volturi Ball on Saturday night, and the 100 Monkeys tickets we had purchased. Then we went downstairs to the vendors booth area. Some cute stuff, but not nearly as much as I would have thought. My 17 yr. old daughter was hilarious. If you knew her, you'd know she prides herself on being mature. She is in fact mistaken for much older on many occasions. She is a bright girl who will be a senior in high school this fall, plus she is taking a couple of college classes simultaneously...and works in a doctors office. I have a lot to be proud of...but you should have seen her. She became a giggly mess because of the Hillywood boy. I can't convince her he isn't Edward...he just dresses up like Edward and spoofs him. He winked at her. She dropped all her stuff she was holding. She is running around this convention buying Vampire Fangs! I haven't seen her act like this since she was 12. It is adorable.
Okay...so now we are back in the hotel room. Well...we three grown ups are. The two teenagers are down in lobby with their MacBook updating their facebooks and socializing with other obsessed girls.
So, in conclusion...so far, so good! I'll report again tomorrow!!!
